Legal Deadlines for Construction Claims Involving Homeowners in CA

Here's my cheat sheet on the important timelines for construction legal claims in CA:

• claims for patent defects in construction - 4 years of substantial completion CCP §337.1
• claims for patent defects in construction - 10 years of substantial completion Section 337.15
• deadline to file preliminary lien notice - 20 days after labor or materials first furnished
• deadline to file a suit to foreclose a mechnics lien - 90 days after recording lien
• deadline to file a case for breach of contract - 4 years after date of breach
• deadline to bring case to court - 5 years after case filed
