"Easiest and cheapest" may not actually be what you want with respect to microgrids. For example, the main step in turning a solar system into a microgrid is selecting an energy storage and management system (a home battery with an energy controller). You usually want these to be high-quality, long-lasting products from a reputable company that will be around to honor their warranty. This might not be the cheapest, but it will be the best way to get a good result.

Not all solar contractors know how to install energy storage and management systems. But, the solar contractor who installed your solar is probably a good first place to start. You should ask them to see if they can give you a quote for a storage and energy management system. I also recommend getting a few other quotes for energy storage/management systems and looking into the the new tax credits available in the IRA.
