Owner-Builder Solar Systems

I'm seeing more and more people do the bulk of their solar system installation themself, and then hire an electriction for the final utility interconnect. I'd love to start a thread about tips and tricks for this type of solar system install approached.

Looking forward to hearing from folks.

thnx
Where are you located? I agree—significant savings can be achieved by handling the installation yourself and only hiring an electrician for the final connection. However, it’s important to be mindful of local permitting and utility interconnection requirements. Sometimes, hiring an expert can be worthwhile for ensuring everything is done correctly.

We just did this and the actual installation of the panels is pretty straightforward if you have the tools. It might be helpful to get a professional to design the system first and give you a layout of the install and how to string the panels together depending on the inverter you are planning to use.

Great idea! Just remember, if you accidentally turn your house into a solar-powered disco, at least you'll have an excuse for those dance parties! 🕺💡 Looking forward to the tips!
