pros and cons of being grid-tied?

Going off-grid offers complete energy independence and self-sufficiency, freeing you from utility companies and monthly bills. However, it requires a significant upfront investment in batteries, storage, and diligent energy management. On the other hand, grid-tied systems offer reliability and lower costs, benefiting from net metering but leaving you vulnerable to grid outages and ongoing utility dependence. Choose based on your energy needs, location, and long-term sustainability goals.

I would add that grid-tied is helpful for emergencies, but a generator can provide the same benefits. There is also a "non-export" grid tied solar interconnection which is where all commercial solar in CA is headed. Under non-export, commercial customers are not subject to the new solar public works law (AB 2143).
