Legacy NEM expansion systems (CA)

Enphase just came out with configurations approved by two of the top utilities in California (PG&E and SCE), with SDG&E expected to follow suit soon. By using the Enphase power control features and system configurations, homeowners with legacy NEM solar energy systems in CA can expand their systems without being transitioned to NEM 3.0.
If others have tips on this topic, would love to get that thread started here.

Great topic. Ensuring that legacy NEM expansion solar systems in California keep their "grandfathering" benefits pre- NEM 3.0 is so important. I could be wrong, but I think this relates to non-export configuration desisns since that allows adding to a legacy NEM system without kicking the whole system onto the less favorable NM 3.0.

Thanks for getting this thread started... Any potential changes to a legacy NEM system should be done carefully. It would be very unfortunate if the modifications inadvertently impact the benefits of the Legacy NEM status.

Barry Cinnamon just did a couple of great podcasts on his Energy SHow with the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Enphase, Raghur Belur. I highly recommend anyone interested in this thread listening to them. The second one was uplifting as Raghur is an optimist and believes that technology will grow the distributed solar industry to a better place than we are now. I needed a dose of technologist optimism today!

Def check these out if you need an uplift too :)

Smart move by Enphase—this is a game changer for homeowners trying to avoid the NEM 3.0 transition and keep their energy costs low. Expanding systems without hitting that new tariff is like finding a cheat code for the grid!

For anyone else considering upgrades, it’s key to make sure your system is future-proof, especially if SDG&E comes on board. You don’t want to end up with extra panels but no real savings. Keep an eye on utility policies, and don't be afraid to consult a pro to ensure your system's optimized for the new configurations.
